You know Samir and Karim. You see them at our club, hanging from the bars, lifting weights, and breaking a sweat. We don't just offer recreational sports; we build the foundation for elite athletics. Our gym is a forge where pros like the Leuppi brothers lay the groundwork for their competitions.
But their true stage is the Schwingen arena.
On November 12th, we’re opening our doors. We invite you to stop just watching Schwingen from the stands and get hands-on instead. Samir and Karim will take you into their second home.
Schwingen is about more than just strength. It’s physical work, but it starts in the mind. You feel your opponent before they make a move. Samir, who started at the Winterthur Schwingen Club, knows exactly what he’s talking about. For him, this sport is a school of life. He’s learned that you get back up after every bout. That passion isn't about talking—it’s about doing.
During this afternoon session, he and Karim will show you the basic techniques.
The handshake as a sign of respect before the bout. Before you step into the sawdust, it’s all about respect.
How to properly grip the canvas shorts. The grip determines whether you maintain control or lose it.
The right hand grips the belt. This is where the leverage comes from.
The left hand is placed on the back of the shorts. It guides and secures your position.
How to take your opponent down into the sawdust fairly and with clean technique. It’s not just about raw strength; it’s about timing.
For anyone who wants to stop just watching Schwingen and try it out for themselves. You don't need any prior experience. Samir and Karim will meet you exactly where you are. It doesn't matter if you're stepping into the sawdust ring for the first time or if you already have some experience.
Samir started at the Winterthur Wrestling Club and is now an Eidgenosse. For him, Schwingen is a school of life. He has learned that you get back up after every bout and that passion has nothing to do with talking, but everything to do with doing.
Karim is the Technical Director for youth development at the Winterthur Wrestling Club. He knows the technique in detail and knows how to teach it. Together with Samir, he will show you what really matters.
The whole event is taking place at the Sportpark Deutweg on the Talgut grass fields in Winterthur. We are setting up a sawdust ring just like at a real competition.
Parking is available at the Sportpark.
From Winterthur main station, platform C, take bus line 3 towards Oberseen. The journey takes about 7 minutes to the Winterthur, Eishalle stop. Depart at 5:48 PM so you arrive in time for the start of the course at 6:00 PM.
If you still have energy after the course, feel free to use the BoxUp stations to grab a ball or just hang out together. The club invites you to stay and wind down.
